Day 76

August 8
Mark 13:34-37

I generally keep my house fairly clean. But I still like to know when someone is coming over, because I like to make sure that everything is in it's place. I might light a candle, make some lemonade, or set out a new magazine. I like to be prepared! In today's verses, Jesus uses another parable to illustrate His return. We don't know when He is coming back. We have learned some of the signs, but no one apart from God knows the day. In this parable, the master leaves home, and his servants are to take care of it and be prepared for his return at any moment. We are the servants in this illustration. We may not know when, but our master is returning and we must be ready! So, get out the dustpan. It could be today!

Principle: I don't need to know when Christ will return, but I do need to work faithfully at what He has assigned me until then.

Application:
1. What task has Jesus given me to do until He returns?
2. In what am I procrastinating which would keep me from being ready for Christ's return?
3. How do I reflect the joyous expectation of His return?

  1. Question #1…The theme that I owe The Lord everything keeps coming to my mind. I want to be able to share His word correctly, carefully and in love without the fear of being "politically correct” 2 Timothy 4:1-2 (NIV) I believe says it all;)
“ In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction”

  2. Question 1: There is only one important thing to do: live in Christ. (John 15) If we remain close to (abide in) Christ, we will bear much fruit. Everything flows out of our relationship with God. The "task" is to nurture that relationship. The "tasks" will take care of themselves as the vine (Jesus) sends life and power to the branches (us). Otherwise, we just end up being busy...doing tasks for God without the power of God. Lord, help me to remain in you today.
