Day 75

August 7
Mark 13:28-33

We should not rely on signs, but on the Word of God. In these verses, Jesus uses an example of a fig tree to say that we will know the tribulation events are coming. This doesn't mean we should spend our lives looking for signs, but we do need to be prepared for the events that are to happen. When Jesus says 'this generation' He is most likely refering to the Jewish nation. God's chosen people - His nation- will be preserved to the end. "This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened" (vs. 30) The tribultation is going to be scary. Everything is going to change. Everything.... except God and His unfailing Word! "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." (vs. 31)

Principle: Christ's disciples are to know His Word so that they are prepared for the future and for His coming.

Application:
1. How am I living today as though Jesus might come any moment?
2. What am I doing now to prepare and warn a lost world for His coming?
3. Is there anything or anyone in my life that I trust or depend on more than the eternal words of God?

3 comments:

  1. Question #2: I am very excited about a new strategy for reaching out to our lost world that I will be teaching the next four weeks at church. It is simple, it is doable, and it is based on the model we see in the life of Jesus. Please pray that all of us will begin to reach out to those who are not prepared for the end by following the example of Jesus.

  2. I am thankful to live in a county where I can freely study God's word and know the truth. In regards to question 3 in the past I have relied more on what others said instead of looking into the word myself. I now rely more on the word and will look up things others tell instead of just believing them.

  3. Bro. John: The comment you made yesterday couldn’t have come at a better time. (“Religion is a system that allows us to choose to follow and obey God so God owes us. The Gospel is a relationship initiated by God where He chooses us and we owe him.”) This is exactly one of the situations I am dealing with in my family in Ct. I have some family in very dire medical situations. Instead of coming to God they choose to believe that a Loving God would not allow this to happen, so therefore there is no God. This is heartbreaking not to be able to give them the Gospel because all that they see is religion. Question #1..How am I living today as though Jesus might come any moment?… God is in control and given the Gospel, I owe Him. I pray that I can be a “good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21) I want to be thankful To God and by my actions show that I owe Him, He does not owe me.
