Day 94

August 26
Mark 15:33-37

Sin separates us from God. When Jesus died on the cross, all of our sin was put on Him. Talk about a heavy burden! But because of all that sin, His intimate fellowship with God was broken. Our sin is kind of like this invisible barrier that keeps us from being able to be intimate with God. Since Jesus was perfect, He had not experienced this barrier before the cross. That is why He cried out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" He felt what it is like to be separated from God. Our lives are the opposite. We are not born perfect, so we start our lives with that invisible barrier. But thanks to Jesus, we do get to experience what life can be like without it. Because Jesus paid the punishment for our sins, we can have an intimate relationship with God. Wow. It never fails to amaze me!

Principle: The darkness of sin brings separation from God.

Application:
1. Have I accepted the fact that Jesus bore all my sins on His body on the Cross?
2. What words of Jesus have I misunderstood, and what have I done to correct my misunderstanding?
3. Do I know that because of the power of His Cross Jesus will bring me through in triumph?

6 comments:

  1. With a loud cry Jesus breathed his last. From another Gospel, we know what that loud cry was: "Father into Thy hands I commit my Spirit." Jesus didn't die until he decided to die. He who spoke the words of life, spoke the word, and then he died. He died for the world. He died for me.

  2. I sometimes feel like I don't have the ability to fully and completely understand the significance of Jesus's sacrifice. I accept it and am humbly thankful for it but I think I am too often taking it for granted or not realizing the magnitude of importance it deserves in my life.

  3. Bob, you could have just put my name on your post today.

I would like to ask for prayer for my mom, Sylvia French. She is 96 and is the reason we are planning the trip to Ct. where we are from. She was diagnosed yesterday with congestive heart failure. She wants to see my brother in Ct. one more time. He is very medically unstable and is not a Christian. The Dr. said she could fly if.... Her 11 grandchildren from all over the U.S. are planning to surprise her there. God willing we will go and maybe my brother will see God in action. Of course that is MY plan, but I really do WANT His. (I’m just not ready to lose my Mom, even if she is 96) Thanks for the shoulders and your prayers.

  6. Linda,
As usual I am a little behind in reading this study (hence your post). I will be praying for your whole family...what an awesome surprise it will be for both your mom and your brother. I sure do hope she gets to see everyone, more importantly that she gets to see your brother come to know Jesus. Whatever happens, know that "nothing by God is accidental."
