Day 71

August 3
Mark 13:5-8

"His name is Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda; his followers call him everything from apostle to Dad, or simply Jesus Christ Man. De Jesus Miranda himself believes he's the living incarnation of "Jesus Christ Man," "the second coming of Christ."A follower of his believes "he is God, he is God." She also lavishes him with money and gifts."I don't have one Rolex," de Jesus Miranda said, "I have 3 because they want to give it to me. It's like that woman that came to Jesus with the expensive perfume and put it on his feet. He didn't reject it, so when someone gives me a watch or a gift, I receive it. I like them too, they're nice."This self-proclaimed Son of God is a 60 year old former heroin addict and convict. The divorced father of 4 was born in Puerto Rico and now lives in South Florida with his second wife." (CBS news) This is just one of many stories of people claiming to be Jesus. In fact, I google searched it and I was really appalled by all the stories. We may not know all the specific details about the second coming. But, when Jesus comes back, we are gonna KNOW! Unfortunately, a lot of people are fooled by these fake Jesuses that claim to be divine. We need to study what God says about this subject so that we know the truth and are prepared.

Principle: Jesus wants His people informed concerning the future so as not to be misled or fearful.

Application:
1. How much time do I spend in God's Word so I can discern the true from the false?
2. Will I take to heard Jesus' instructions to keep from being deceived or fearful?
3. Am I drawing comfort now from Jesus' words, or am I dismayed at the upheaval in today's world?

  1. re: application #3. I am dismayed at the upheaval in today's world. Thank you for the reminder that it is all part of the plan.

  2. Thank-you for posting an online Bible study...it certainly is helping me to spend more time in God's word, hence helping discern true from false better.

  3. My thoughts exactly,Cindy! I was glued to Fox news but found that I was getting depressed by what is happening behind our backs. Yup, its all part of the plan! Another hymn just popped into my head...'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" Thank you Jesus.

  4. Sarah that is interesting about how many people claim to be Jesus, I never thought it would be very many. I know many people can easily fall for false prophets. I pray that I will continue to seek the truth from God's word.

  5. "These are the beginning of birth pains." What an interesting illustration Jesus chose to describe the beginning of the end! What do we know about birth pains? (The ladies would say I don't have a clue because I'm a guy. :) But isn't it true that in the early stages of labor there is some pain, followed by really bad pain in the later stages, followed by great joy once the baby arrives? So it will be when Jesus returns. Earthquakes and wars and false messiahs are just the early "lighter" pains. But during the painful times, we need to remember that joy is coming.
