Mark 10:28-31
Have you ever played ‘would you rather’? Well, you’re about to. It’s easy. All you have to do is pick which of the two options you would rather do. Here it goes.
Would you rather have a really big house on earth, or a mansion in heaven for eternity?
Would you rather put your family before Christ, or be a part of the family of Christ?
Would you rather have things, or blessings?
Would you rather follow the world, or pick up your cross and follow Jesus?
Would you rather have a few short years living a self centered life and clinging to your worldly possessions and attitudes, or be rewarded abundantly and live in the presence of God, in the place that He has prepared for you, forever?
Principle: Jesus rewards abundantly now and in eternity those who leave all to follow Him.
Application:
1. Have I ever consciously decided to leave all to follow Jesus? Will I do so now?
2. What or whom am I holding onto that hinders my following Jesus?
3. Have I eyes to see the hundredfold abundance God has given?

"and with them persecutions." Anybody else wish Jesus hadn't thrown in that phrase? Jesus never promised an easy life. Instead of bribing people to follow him, he challenged them. He called them to give up the rewards of time for the rewards of eternity. Lord, help me to accept persecutions as normal for this life and to endure them for the promises of the next life.
ReplyDeleteThat to me is the irony of faith. We are asked to give up things we can see for things in the future that we can't see but when we do, we are also blessed with even more things in this present age. And by "things" I don't mean just material possessions but they are certainly included.
ReplyDeleteI’m with you Bro. John! After my stressful time with my family trying to discuss God's word, Rick referred me to the scripture Matthew 13:54-57 where the people in Jesus’ home town took offense at Him for His teachings. Remembering that made it easier to handle the difficult discussions with my own family. And now this phrase in Mark..."and with them Persecutions.” I think that the Lord is telling me to buckle my seat belt when I go to Conn. and will be with many unsaved “Christian” family and friends. I covet your prayers that I will speak with God’s wisdom and when He opens the doors. But I guess I will still need my hard hat!!
ReplyDeleteThank You Linda and John, I totally missed that phrase.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I think I am giving up something, God blesses me with more that I ever dreamed of.
I'll be praying for you, Linda!
