Day 40

July 3
Mark 8:27-30

Who is Jesus? That is a question that every person has to decide for themselves. When I read the first application question – What words do I use to describe Jesus? – one of my favorite praise songs came to mind. This song describes very well who Jesus is to me.

You awaken my heartFrom slumbering
Meet me in mourning
And you speak to my grief
You're the light in my darkness
The delight of my eyes
The hope of the daybreak
When the sun's slow to rise
I trust that every moment's in your hands

You're the God of my days
The King of my nights
Lord of my laughter
Sovereign in sorrow
You're the Prince of my praise
The love of my life
You never leave meY
ou are faithful
God of my days

Principle: Sooner or later each man will have to make a decision about who Jesus is.

Application:
1. What words do I use to describe Jesus?
2. How does my character and conduct reflect my confession of Christ?
3. What will I do to help others know who Christ is?

  1. Question #2…I think that music has a great effect on shaping my character. With a song running around in my head, there is less room for fear and anxiety to creep into my heart. I don’t know that praise song Sarah, but the words sure are beautiful. The song that the Lord just gave to me is “You are my All in All”(pg. 583 in The Celebration Hymnal!) I would have to say that that is my answer to question#1. I love when God does that:)

  2. My favorite praise song:
I know you're faithful, more than able, you are my Abba, Father, friend. Jehovah Jireh, my provider, I give my anxious heart again. You alone are God. You alone are sovereign. High above the heavens you rule all creation. Through the storms of life, I will trust your promise that everything works together for our good.

  3. There are so many songs that assist us with todays questions. The one I thought of is Michael W. Smith, "Prince of Peace" It is sung in parts the female part Sums up who He is.
You are Lord of Lords, you are king of kings, you are mighty God, Lord of everything, You're Emmanuel, You're the great I am, you're the prince of peace, who is the Lamb, You're my saving grace, you will regin forever, you are ancient of days, You're the Alpha, Omega, beginning and end, You're my savior, messiah, redeemer and friend. You're my prince of peace and I will live my life for you.
It's nice to be reminded of songs and really look at the words and what they mean to us.

  4. The question, "who do you say that I am?" is the reason Mark wrote his gospel. Many twisted versions of the life of Jesus (gnostic gospels) would emerge and Mark wanted people to know the TRUE character, actions, and teachings of Christ. Misunderstanding the nature of Jesus is disastrous spiritually. God wants us to become like Jesus so we have to have an accurate picture or we'll miss the target. At this point, Peter still didn't fully understand the mission of Jesus, but he did understand His identity. Lord, help me to accurately reflect who You are in my teaching ministry and in my life.
