Day 33

June 26
Mark 7:14-23

Sin is not something that we acquire. We are not born perfect and then ruined by sin. We are born sinners; we are born unclean. It is innate in our hearts. But, when we ask Jesus to replace our sin with Himself, our hearts become clean. It can be pretty easy to tell what kind of heart a person has just by the way they act. Have you ever heard the phrase, “Out of the mouth, the heart speaks!”? I remember my mother saying this to me a time or two during my lifetime, and it’s very true. I know people with unclean hearts who are always negative and complaining. And I know people with clean hearts who just seem to ooze God’s joy and love. I’m not saying that Christians don’t complain. What I am saying is that our attitude comes from within, and when we are focused God it is obvious to those around us. So, what are you letting rule your heart? Is God’s love shining out of you, or is it your ugly sin that people can see?

Lesson: Uncleanness comes from within.

Application:
1. Where do I go for help with the things I don’t understand?
2. When circumstances squeeze me, what comes out of my inner being?
3. How will I care daily for my heart’s spiritual condition as well as my body’s physical condition?

2 comments:

  1. Question#3: I am thankful for this Bible study and I pray that I am finally establishing a daily routine of God first, daily activities 2nd.

  2. I too looked at question 3. If I increase the amount and quality of time with God. (putting this into my heart) Then my life will reflect more of what Christ wants in my life (Christ coming out of my heart). This is my prayer to have an intimate relationship with Christ.
