Mark 6:53-56
We have had several lessons on healing since we started the Mark study. When I read the verses I thought, “What can I say about Jesus healing that I haven’t already said?” Then I read the application questions and one of them was, “What is my focus – my physical needs or my spiritual sickness?” This really struck me, because so often I forget that this life is just temporary. Our bodies are not nearly as valuable as our souls. It is important to pray for healing, and we know that Jesus is capable and willing to heal our physical sicknesses. But our primary focus should be on our spiritual healing. When something is not right with our bodies, it is easy to get so wrapped up in thinking about it and worrying about it. And sometimes when we are not getting the healing we desire, we can even become angry at God. It is ok to pray for healing, but it is not ok to let sickness get in the way of your relationship with God. Maybe we should think about it this way – a little discomfort on this earth is nothing compared to an eternity in hell!
Principle: Jesus has power to heal anyone who reaches out to Him.
Application:
1. What do I want Jesus to heal in my life?
2. In what ways can I bring others to Jesus for healing?
3. What is my focus – my physical needs or my spiritual sickness?

As I read today’s scripture, verse 54 seemed to jump off the page. The answer to Question#2 for me is this verse.” As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus.” WOW. I can’t bring others to Jesus if they don’t recognize Him in me. I truly want my life to be pointing others to Christ. So I pray that that as soon as they see me they can recognize Him. And Sarah, I love your statement that “our bodies are not nearly as valuable as the souls.” What a statement/ And I know I will have opportunities to quote you on that. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI am looking at the end of the text. " and all who touched Him were healed." Vs 56b, I don't have to have great words or be a perfect speaker. I just need to bring a touch of Jesus to others. This could simply be the my example or how my life reflects for Jesus. He will do the rest.
