Day 20

June 13
Mark 3:35-41

What do you fear? I don’t mean spiders and snakes. I mean, what is that thing that is always in the back of your mind that you can’t shake loose. Are you afraid that the economy is going to completely crash? Are you scared you’ll never have enough money to retire? Do you imagine awful things happening to your children or spouse? Fear is something that everyone, even the toughest of tough guys, struggles with. Do you trust God to take away your fears? It’s not so easy is it? Even the disciples were shocked that Jesus could calm the storm! It is hard to completely trust. But God does not want us to live in fear. He wants us to live in faith! (The following verses are from NLT)

Psalm 4:8 – In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.

Hebrews 13:6 – So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

2 Corinthians 1:10 – And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

Psalm 23:4 – Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Isaiah 35:4 – Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

Principle: There is no reason to be afraid of anything when Jesus is with me.

Application:
1. When there is a storm in my life, do I call out to friends or to Jesus?
2. What habits can I cultivate that will allow me to experience the peace of His presence?
3. What attribute of God’s character has He shown me in the midst of my storm?

5 comments:

  1. God has shown me His sovereignty through the storms in my life. I trust completely that He is in total control of every situation. So I need not fear because He sees the big picture, knows the outcome and is working it all together for my good. Thank you God!

  2. Qustion#2-What habit can I cultivate? One for sure is to call out Daily to Jesus for help. Not only in the big storms, but in every day things. And while I'm at it, I want to remember to give Him thanks for His never ending help! If I cultivate that habit, I can kick fear right off of the playing field. Not only would that be wonderful for me, but I'm sure it would please Jesus as well.

  3. If I work on having a true relationship with Christ then my faith will be stronger and I will trust Him more instead of looking to my friends during the storms of life. So I will continue to cultivate my pray time as well as Bible study.

  4. Question #3: I have learned by experience what the Bible means when it calls God a "shield." This name for God has become precious to me. When I think of how he has protected me worship wells up in my heart. Psalm 144:2 He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.

  5. Bro. John, thank you for that scripture verse today. I will pass it onto my niece who suffers with anxiety.
