Day 48

July 11
Mark 10:1-12

When I ready today's principle I thought, "I don't want to do this!" Divorce is a very tender and difficult subject to approach in today's society. There are a lot of conflicting views on what is okay and what is not okay, even among Christians and churches. So, I am just going to type what God is telling me to type and hopefully I won't offend anyone. Jesus said that, "anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her." A lot of people believe that adultery is just having sex before you are married, but that is not all. Adultery is not honoring marriage the way God intended. That could mean cheating on a spouse, sex before marriage, or in today's verses, divorcing your spouse to marry someone else. Marriage is a big deal that should be taken seriously. That being said, we are humans and sometimes we mess up. Fortunately, our God is a God of love and forgiveness! Also, some of the people reading this may be victims of divorce through no choice of your own. God not only forgives those who have made wrong choices, He also cares for and supports those who have been wronged by others.

I know a lot of you have been having trouble commenting. I have been having trouble today as well. Hopefully it is just a problem with this site and will soon be fixed. Keep trying.

Principle: Remarriage after divorce is adultery.

Application:
1. Where am I, through hardness of heart, living by my selfish desires instead of God's known will?
2. How do I view the sin of adultery in relation to my own sins which may not be as obvious to others?
3. When questioned by other, how careful am I to uphold God's revealed will through His Word, the Bible?

3 comments:

  1. I am pleased to pastor a church that has divorced and remarried staff and deacons because Jesus is about grace. But Jesus is all about truth as well. Lean to much toward truth and we we become like the Pharisees. Lean too much toward grace and we fall into sin. This is an area where sinners need grace. But please friends, don't try and change what Jesus said. It is TRUTH.

  2. Question #3 today is right where Sarah Palin would say “spot on”. I have had a tough couple of days trying to dig into Gods word with some family members. I know that God’s Word does not come back to Him void and that discussing Biblical truths can be harder within your family than with anyone else. But experiencing that has left me completely drained. I pray that God will renew my spirit.

  3. I do not mean to offend anyone with my comments, this is just what God is revealing to me today. Today in the paper there was an article in regards to openly homosexual bishops leading in the church. So when I read this passage the thing that stuck out to me was that it clearly states " from the beginning of creation, God made the male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh." vs 6-8a (NAS) When I read the part about Male and female it really made me think about this article and the chruch, where there is a lot of debate right now, I believe the Bible is clearly stating that homosexual relations is not what God intended and is displeasing to Him.
